LAFC is currently negotiating a move for Atlético Madrid midfielder Antoine Griezmann, confirming their long-standing interest in the playmaker, according to GiveMeSport. Griezmann’s contract is set to expire at the end of the 2024-25 season.

At 33 years old, Griezmann has a release clause of €10 million ($10.9 million) that could be triggered this summer. Atlético Madrid is actively seeking a forward and is reportedly close to finalizing a deal for Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez.

Throughout his nearly 15-year career, Griezmann has netted 268 goals and provided 119 assists. LAFC is currently just two points shy of leading the Western Conference and six points behind the Supporters Shield leaders.

Griezmann has expressed a strong desire to play in MLS. Last year, he mentioned his interest in a move to America: “Saudi Arabia? I understand those who go there due to the substantial money involved. It’s not an easy choice for me with a family and three children. MLS remains my priority.”

Should Griezmann join LAFC, he would strengthen a notable French presence at the club. In December 2023, LAFC signed former France national team goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who has made 24 starts and recorded 64 saves with a 68.1% save rate. Additionally, Olivier Giroud joined LAFC in early May but has yet to make his debut.

LAFC’s continued pursuit of Griezmann indicates he is their top target.
