Chelsea have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Gabriel Mec from Gremio for a fee of £20.5 million. The 16-year-old attacking midfielder is set to undergo a medical in Brazil before signing a five-year deal with the Blues.
However, due to regulations prohibiting transfers of under-18 players from Brazil, Mec will remain at Gremio until April 2026. Despite not yet making a senior appearance, Mec is highly regarded, and Gremio initially sought to include a £136.8 million release clause in his contract. Unable to secure such a clause, the club agreed to an image licensing deal similar to Neymar’s early career agreement with Santos.
Chelsea has been actively securing young talents from South America. The club recently confirmed the £50 million signing of Estevao Willian from Palmeiras and acquired Kendry Paez from Independiente del Valle for £17 million last summer. Both players, aged 17, will join Chelsea next year.<
