Manchester City is close to finalizing a £70 million deal to sell Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid. This transfer could pave the way for Chelsea to acquire striker Samu Omorodion from Atletico for around £35 million, contingent on Alvarez’s deal being completed. Atletico is also negotiating to sign Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher, a move separate from the Omorodion deal.

Alvarez, 24, seeks more regular playtime, currently behind Erling Haaland at City. The Argentine forward, who contributed 19 goals and 13 assists last season, has been hinting at a move throughout the summer. Having joined City from River Plate for £14 million two years ago, Alvarez has won numerous titles, including two Premier League titles, the Champions League, and the FA Cup.

Competing in the Olympics, Alvarez commented, “There is a lot of talk. I am focused here because it is a short tournament. At Man City I feel very good, I played a lot of minutes. But we will see after the Games.” Manager Pep Guardiola plans to discuss Alvarez’s future upon his return for pre-season.
