Liverpool is seeking a significantly higher fee for midfielder Fabio Carvalho after rejecting an initial £15m ($19m) bid from Southampton. According to The Athletic, Liverpool is not considering another loan for the 21-year-old and insists that any permanent transfer would require an increased offer from the Saints.
Carvalho demonstrated his potential during two loan spells in the 2023-24 season, with Southampton witnessing his capabilities firsthand during his stint with Hull in the Championship. With his contract extending until 2027, Liverpool holds substantial control over his future.
Carvalho was recalled from his loan at RB Leipzig early last season and quickly loaned out to the Championship, as Liverpool was dissatisfied with his lack of playing time at Leipzig. The Bundesliga club was left displeased when he was withdrawn from their squad.
It remains uncertain if Southampton will return with a higher bid as the new Premier League season approaches. The newly-promoted side is eager to bolster their squad and Carvalho, who has continued to impress in pre-season under Arne Slot, could be a key target.
