Liverpool has reportedly initiated contact with Liga Profesional club Lanus to pursue a deal for left-back Julio Soler, following his impressive performances at the Olympics. Several elite clubs are eyeing Soler for a summer transfer after the 19-year-old shined for Javier Mascherano’s Argentina in Paris.

Soler, who rose through Lanus’ youth system, was promoted to the first team last season and has since made 36 appearances. He is expected to play a key role in Lanus’ plans for the current season. According to Argentine journalist German Garcia Grova, Lanus is willing to accept a $15 million (£12m) offer for Soler.

Liverpool sees Soler as a potential long-term successor to Andy Robertson. Although the 30-year-old Robertson remains the preferred left-back, the club is planning for the future and aims to have Soler as a backup.

Soler’s Olympic journey ended in disappointment with Argentina’s quarter-final loss to France. He has now returned to Argentina to rejoin Lanus while the club deliberates his future.
