Liverpool are targeting 19-year-old Argentine left-back Julio Soler as a potential long-term successor to Andy Robertson. The Reds have been monitoring Soler, who has impressed at the Olympic Games and for his club Lanus. Soler is known for his attacking prowess, fitting the profile Liverpool seeks in a defender.

Although Robertson, 30, remains the first choice, Soler could be groomed for the future. Lanus values Soler at around £13 million, a fee within Liverpool’s reach, but convincing the youngster to accept a backup role initially could be challenging. Soler made four appearances and assisted one goal at the Paris Olympics and has 36 appearances for Lanus.

Meanwhile, Liverpool is undecided on the future of young attacker Jayden Danns, 18, who is wanted by Plymouth’s Wayne Rooney. New manager Arne Slot may keep Danns to monitor his progress after he scored two goals in six first-team appearances last season.
