Jean-Philippe Mateta is seeking a new contract at Crystal Palace as his reputation continues to soar. The striker, 27, scored 16 Premier League goals last season, including nine in the final six games. Mateta has also impressed internationally, netting two goals for France at the Olympics, including the winner in the 1-0 victory over Argentina, setting up a semi-final clash against Egypt.

There is speculation about a significant move abroad for Mateta, with RB Leipzig and Napoli showing interest. However, Crystal Palace aims to secure Mateta with a pay rise before the transfer window closes to prevent any departure. Napoli’s interest is particularly noteworthy as they consider him a potential replacement for Victor Osimhen, should he move to Chelsea. Mateta joined Palace initially on loan from Mainz in 2021 and signed permanently for £13 million.

Despite a slow start with only nine goals in his first two seasons, he dramatically improved in the 2023/24 campaign with 19 goals in 39 appearances. Meanwhile, Odsonne Edouard, 26, is also looking for a new deal, though negotiations have yet to begin. Exeter City is interested in loaning Selhurst forward Roshaun Mathurin, 20, but he remains close to Oliver Glasner’s squad.
