Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour has advised Aaron Ramsdale to decide this summer whether to stay at the Emirates or leave to secure his future with the England national team. With Arsenal signing David Raya permanently, Ramsdale is likely to be a backup under Arteta this season.

Ramsdale started last season as Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper but was soon benched when Raya joined on loan from Brentford. He made only two more Premier League appearances post-Raya’s arrival, both against Brentford due to the Spaniard’s ineligibility. Ramsdale has also been unable to replace Jordan Pickford as England’s starting goalkeeper, serving as backup during Euro 2024.

Speaking to Mirror Sport, Parlour said: “It’s going to be tough for Aaron. He’s part of the England squad and wants to get a chance to play. He craves regular football, having experienced it with Arsenal. It’s a pivotal moment for him and Arteta as manager.

“Raya’s deal, costing £25m, is not bad. But now, Aaron must decide whether to stay and await another opportunity or move on to prove Arteta wrong and secure the No.1 spot for England. I think he’ll move on because he wants to play regularly.

“It will be sad to see him leave, but he must prioritize his career. Missing two years could lead to regret. Aaron must make a significant decision with his family and the club. Whichever team he joins will gain a top-class goalkeeper.”

Currently, there are no clear transfer prospects for Ramsdale, with interest from Chelsea and Newcastle having diminished. Arsenal aims to recoup the £24 million they spent on the former Sheffield United goalkeeper, but no team seems willing to pay that amount, potentially leaving Ramsdale behind Raya at the start of the new season.
