Steve McClaren has been appointed as the new manager of the Jamaican national team, leaving his role as Manchester United’s first-team coach. McClaren, who re-joined the Red Devils in 2022, replaces Heimar Hallgrimsson as the Reggae Boyz boss. Hallgrimsson recently took over as the Republic of Ireland manager.

Jamaica confirmed McClaren’s appointment with a statement: “Stephen McClaren has been appointed as head coach of the Reggae Boyz.” FA president Michael Ricketts expressed confidence in McClaren’s ability to guide Jamaica towards the 2026 FIFA World Cup. McClaren, excited about his new role, stated, “I had no hesitation in accepting a position that is ideally suited to me at this stage of my career.”

Jamaica, currently ranked 59th in the FIFA world rankings, will play Cuba and Honduras in September for the Concacaf Nations League. The 63-year-old McClaren has previous international experience, having managed England, though his tenure lasted just 15 months. He has been out of the dugout since April 2019, after a stint with Queens Park Rangers.
