Chelsea have completed the signing of goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal in a £20.7 million deal. The Danish youth international has signed a seven-year contract and participated in his first training session in Atlanta. Jorgensen impressed last season in La Liga, making 36 appearances, keeping six clean sheets, and boasting a save percentage of nearly 70%.
The 22-year-old joined Villarreal seven years ago after stints in the academies of Swedish sides GIF Nike and Malmo, and Spanish teams Santa Catalina, Penya Arrabal, and Mallorca. On his move to Chelsea, Jorgensen said, “This move is a dream come true. I am very excited to have signed for Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world. I can’t wait to get to know everyone and to start playing with all my new teammates.”Jorgensen is Chelsea’s sixth signing this summer, following Marc Guiu, Caleb Wiley, Renato Veiga, Omari Kellyman, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
Meanwhile, Conor Gallagher is nearing a move to Atletico Madrid, with advanced talks suggesting a transfer fee under £50 million. Chelsea’s pre-season tour in the US has been underwhelming, with a draw against Wrexham and a 4-1 loss to Celtic. Additionally, Enzo Fernandez has apologized to the squad after posting a controversial video.
