Despite Yaya Toure’s legendary status at Manchester City, he generously shared his wisdom with his fellow Ivorian, Amad Diallo. However, Amad did not reveal the specifics of the advice he received from Toure during their summer holiday meeting in the Maldives, hinting that its impact would become apparent by the season’s end.
Discussing his encounter with Toure from United’s training base at UCLA, Amad said, “This summer I met him on holiday and he gave me some advice – some secret.”
When asked for more details, Amad remained tight-lipped. “It’s a secret,” he reiterated. “He said something is good for me. He is a good guy. Yaya Toure scored a lot of goals with City. Meeting him on holiday and talking with him was very important for me. He gave me some advice for the future. Let’s see what happens at the end of the season.”
Amad has also been refining his skills under another football icon, Ruud van Nistelrooy, who has returned to Old Trafford as Erik ten Hag’s assistant. The former Atalanta player, now 22, expressed his enthusiasm about training with the club legend, saying, “He’s trying to help us score more goals. If we want to win something this season, we need to score a lot of goals. That’s why he focuses on training. I’m happy to work with Ruud and the manager.”
Amad’s dedication and new guidance appear to be yielding results. The 22-year-old has excelled in pre-season, earning praise from his manager for his impressive performance against Rangers, where he scored in a 2-0 victory for the Red Devils.
Recognizing his potential, United have planned new contract discussions with Amad and have already reportedly turned down a £30 million ($38 million) offer for the young forward this summer. Now, his goal is to maintain his pre-season momentum and secure a spot in Erik ten Hag’s starting XI when the competitive season begins on August 10 with the traditional curtain-raiser in the Community Shield against Manchester City.
