Vitor Roque made headlines earlier this year when Barcelona secured his services in a €30 million (£26m/$32m) deal with Atletico Paranaense for the then 18-year-old. Despite high expectations, Roque struggled to find a place in Xavi Hernandez’s squad, making only 14 appearances and starting just twice last season.

With Xavi’s departure, there was hope that Roque might get a fresh start under new coach Hansi Flick. However, Sport reports that Al-Hilal and Barcelona are now discussing a potential move for the 19-year-old. The Saudi Pro League team is interested in a loan deal with a mandatory buy option for next summer, but Barcelona prefers a permanent transfer and is seeking around €40 million (£33.8m/$43.3m).

Al-Hilal’s interest in Roque came after their unsuccessful attempt to lure Raphinha away from Barcelona with a reported bid of €65 million (£54.9m/$70.6m). Additionally, Barcelona has received a substantial offer from Al-Nassr, who are prepared to make a Saudi Pro League record bid of €100 million (£84.5m/$108.7m) for the Brazilian.

According to Romano, Roque is likely to reject Al-Hilal’s offer. Nonetheless, a summer departure remains a possibility for the young Brazilian, especially if Barcelona succeeds in acquiring top target Nico Williams from Athletic Club.
