The reigning English champions have resumed training after their summer break and have travelled to New York for their pre-season commitments. However, several first-team players are absent as they are still on holiday following major international tournaments.

Guardiola flew out from Manchester with a reduced squad, which includes several academy players. While Erling Haaland, Jack Grealish, Ederson, and Stefan Ortega are part of the team, key players like Kevin de Bruyne, Rodri, Phil Foden, Kyle Walker, and Julian Alvarez are still enjoying their time off.

Guardiola emphasized the importance of rest for his players, stating that football can wait until they are fully rejuvenated and eager to return.

“I told them to come back when they feel the desire to play again,” he said. “If you don’t feel it, stay at home. The season is long. Maybe some days before or after the Community Shield. That’s the plan. We will suggest they do some preparation before they arrive. I’m more concerned that they have energy and are happy to be in the locker room and training sessions. Then we say come back and welcome. I don’t want them to return exhausted. It’s better if they stay at home a few more days.”

City will be competing on six fronts in the upcoming season, and Guardiola wants a fresh squad with enough energy to perform when it matters most. Their first competitive match is in two weeks against Manchester United in the Community Shield, and by then, the Spaniard expects to have his full squad ready.
