Strengthening the midfield has become a key focus for Manchester United’s manager Erik ten Hag and co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe. While Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte is their top target, Adrien Rabiot’s availability offers an enticing opportunity for the Red Devils.
According to French journalist Romain Collet-Gaudin, Rabiot is “getting closer to Manchester United” and prefers a move to Old Trafford over Liverpool. Although discussions are ongoing between Rabiot’s representatives and both clubs, Manchester United seems to be in a better position to secure his signature.
In contrast, The Daily Mail’s Lewis Steele and Fabrizio Romano report that Liverpool were never seriously considering the 29-year-old midfielder this summer. This leaves Manchester United as the main contender for Rabiot, despite speculation linking him to AC Milan and Real Madrid.
Rabiot’s exit from Juventus concludes a five-year tenure with the Serie A club. After joining Juventus from PSG in 2019, Rabiot made 212 appearances and contributed to the team’s Serie A title, two Italian Cups, and one Italian Super Cup.
Acquiring Rabiot on a free transfer would be a cost-effective move for Manchester United. With plans to market Scott McTominay and Casemiro, saving on transfer fees would allow the club to invest in other crucial signings, including a potential additional centre-back following Leny Yoro’s addition to the squad.
