According to The Athletic, Arsenal have rekindled negotiations with Bologna over the transfer of Riccardo Calafiori. After renewed talks, the two clubs are now closer to finalizing a deal that has been in progress for several weeks. The transfer fee for Calafiori is anticipated to be between €50-€54 million (£42m/$54.5m – £45.5m/$59m). While discussions on the specifics of the bonuses are still ongoing, both teams are optimistic about reaching a complete agreement soon.

Juventus had also shown interest in Calafiori earlier in the transfer window, but they withdrew their pursuit as Bologna’s asking price continued to rise. This withdrawal has left Arsenal as the leading candidate to sign the player.

Calafiori is reported to have agreed to personal terms with Arsenal, including a five-year contract. The Gunners hope to finalize the transfer before their pre-season tour to the United States begins on Sunday. Bologna signed Calafiori from Basel last summer for £3.4 million, and Basel is entitled to 50% of any profit from his sale.

Mikel Arteta reportedly views Calafiori as a crucial addition to the squad. The Italian defender can play both as a left-back and an inverted full-back, offering flexibility in midfield roles if needed. With the two clubs nearing a full agreement, Calafiori’s move to Arsenal appears imminent. The next few days will be pivotal as final details are sorted out before Calafiori travels to London for his medical.
