Marca reports that Atletico Madrid was taken aback when Milan paid a €13 million clause to sign Alvaro Morata, as the Rossoneri did not notify the Colchoneros beforehand.

Milan has officially announced the acquisition of Alvaro Morata from Atletico Madrid. The Spanish forward has agreed to a four-year contract with an option for an additional year and will don the No. 7 jersey at San Siro this season.

The Serie A club triggered the €13 million release clause to bring Morata back to Italy after his four-year stint with Juventus. However, Marca notes that Atletico Madrid was surprised by the move, as they had anticipated direct communication from Milan.

Instead, the only notification Atletico received was from Morata himself, who bid farewell to the club’s directors and teammates on Tuesday, the same day he underwent medical tests with Milan.

The 31-year-old striker is currently on vacation and will join his new team in August.
