World Cup-winning manager Joachim Low is open to discussing the England managerial position following Gareth Southgate’s resignation. Low, 64, led Germany to victory in the 2014 World Cup and managed the national team for 15 years.

While the FA prefers an English manager, they are not excluding foreign candidates. Eddie Howe, Graham Potter, and Lee Carsley are among the names on their shortlist. Low’s experience and success with Germany make him a compelling candidate despite his last game as German manager being a 2-0 loss to England at Euro 2020.

Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, another potential candidate, has ruled out returning to football this summer. Klopp’s high salary at Liverpool, £15 million per season, would be prohibitive for the FA. Southgate earned £5 million annually, while Low earned about half that amount with Germany.

Low’s extensive international experience includes leading Germany to third place in the 2010 World Cup and a runner-up finish at Euro 2008. He has not managed a team since stepping down from the German national team.
