Manchester United are finalizing a £52 million deal for Lille’s 18-year-old defender Leny Yoro. The move comes despite strong interest from Real Madrid, who were Yoro’s initial preference.

United have outbid Real Madrid, who saw Yoro as a long-term replacement for Nacho Fernandez. Real Madrid were even willing to wait until Yoro’s contract expired next summer to sign him for free. However, Yoro has been swayed by Manchester United’s project and is now heading to Carrington for a medical before finalizing personal terms.

This transfer marks a significant shift at United, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos now overseeing football operations. The day-to-day management includes new sporting director Dan Ashworth, technical chief Jason Wilcox, and CEO Omar Berrada. Manager Erik ten Hag, who has extended his contract until 2026, is now supported by assistants Ruud van Nistelrooy and Rene Hake.
