Manchester City have bolstered their academy backroom staff by appointing former defenders Kolo Toure and Richard Dunne. The club has announced a reshuffle to their youth and reserves set-up at the Etihad Campus in preparation for the 2024/25 season.

Toure, who helped City win their first Premier League title in 2012, has been appointed assistant manager of the Under-16s. Despite a tough spell as Wigan’s manager, Toure previously built a solid coaching reputation with Brendan Rodgers at Celtic and Leicester. He will now work alongside current Under-16 coach Jamie Carr.

Former City captain Dunne, who contributed to the academy last season, will assist new Under-18s coach Oliver Reiss, who has joined from Hertha Berlin. Additionally, Ben Wilkinson, son of management legend Howard Wilkinson, has been promoted to lead the Elite Development Squad after guiding City to FA Youth Cup glory last season.

City’s academy director, Thomas Kruecken, expressed his enthusiasm for the new coaching structure, emphasizing the club’s commitment to promoting from within and ensuring clear career progression. Kruecken stated, “Continuing Manchester City Academy’s development is vital, and these appointments leave us ideally equipped to meet the challenges of next season and beyond.”
