Stevenage are battling to keep hold of their 15-year-old sensation Ryan Doherty amidst growing interest from Premier League clubs. The League One side recently gave the young midfielder 45 minutes in a behind-closed-doors match against Luton, showcasing his smooth-passing talent. Despite Stevenage’s desire to retain Doherty, they may struggle if a significant offer comes in.

The midfielder’s rapid development has caught the eye of several unnamed Premier League clubs keen to add him to their academies. Doherty is set to feature regularly in the first-team squad next season under new boss Alex Revell. He impressed during his 30-minute appearance against Watford on Saturday, helping Stevenage to a 2-2 draw against the Championship side at the Lamex Stadium. Stevenage has a history of giving young talents opportunities, as demonstrated last season when 15-year-old goalkeeper Max Woodford played against Crystal Palace U21s in the EFL Trophy.

Fans have praised Doherty on social media, with one stating, “Doherty is incredibly impressive. Hope he gets a chance to play in League One before the elites swoop in.” Another commented, “Cracking little player – won’t be around for much longer, I wouldn’t have thought.”
