Aston Villa have reportedly beaten Bayern Munich and Barcelona to sign Everton’s Amadou Onana. The 22-year-old midfielder, who impressed for Belgium at Euro 2024, has been the subject of transfer speculation for months. Onana’s performances under Sean Dyche at Everton attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, Arsenal, and Newcastle.

Bayern Munich and Barcelona were also admirers. However, Villa has now moved ahead in the race. According to The Athletic, Villa is finalizing a £50 million deal with Everton, having agreed on personal terms with Onana for a long-term contract. The midfielder is enthusiastic about playing for Unai Emery’s side, who are preparing for Champions League football. Onana joined Everton in 2022 for £33 million from Lille and has been a key player, making 72 appearances.

His move to Villa will see Lille receive 20% of the profit from the sale due to a clause in his transfer deal to Everton. Villa have strengthened their midfield by signing Argentina’s Enzo Barrenechea from Juventus and bringing Ross Barkley back from Luton Town. Meanwhile, Douglas Luiz has departed for Juventus, and Tim Iroegbunam has moved to Everton.
