Former Manchester United wonderkid Charlie McNeill has moved to Sheffield Wednesday. The 20-year-old striker made his debut for the Red Devils alongside Cristiano Ronaldo in 2022, featuring in a Europa League clash against Real Sociedad, which United lost 1-0.

Reflecting on his debut, McNeill told the BBC it was a “dream come true” to play upfront with Ronaldo in front of 75,000 fans. Despite the excitement, that match remained his sole first-team appearance for Manchester United.

McNeill had loan spells at Newport County and Stevenage before being recalled in January. He departed Old Trafford as a free agent at the end of the season. Though he had interest from MLS and Serie A clubs, McNeill chose to join Championship side Sheffield Wednesday.

Having started his career in Manchester United’s academy, McNeill temporarily played for cross-city rivals Manchester City before returning to United. Meanwhile, Manchester United continue to work on new signings and are set to pay the release clause for Bologna star Joshua Zirkzee.
