Milan has initiated discussions with RB Salzburg to acquire Strahinja Pavlovic, identified as their top defensive target this summer, as reported by Calciomercato.com.

According to Calciomercato.com, Milan has begun initial negotiations for the transfer of Serbian international Pavlovic from Red Bull Salzburg.

Last week, La Gazzetta dello Sport noted Milan’s interest in the 23-year-old defender. The latest report confirms Pavlovic as Milan’s primary defensive target for the upcoming 2024 summer transfer window.

Milan is reportedly in talks to secure Pavlovic for €20 million, with Salzburg’s asking price aligning with this figure. The club is exploring the optimal deal structure before formalizing their opening offer.

However, Milan may need to offload Malick Thiaw before completing Pavlovic’s acquisition.

During his recent introductory press conference, new Milan coach Paulo Fonseca emphasized the club’s priority to sign a new center-forward. Fonseca refrained from criticizing Milan’s current center-backs for the high number of goals conceded during the 2023-24 season, suggesting a necessity to sell one defender before recruiting a replacement.
