Former Inter manager Andrea Stramaccioni, the first Italian coach to lead a team in the Iranian league, believes Mehdi Taremi will be a pivotal addition under Simone Inzaghi this season at the Serie A defending champions. Taremi, the Iranian international, is set to finalize a two-year deal with Inter, moving on a free transfer from Porto after his contract expired on June 30.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Stramaccioni, who made history coaching in Iran, shared his insights on the seasoned striker: “Iranian footballers usually have strong personality and, Taremi has always settled well at new clubs. I’ve never coached him, but I know him well. He is a hard worker and he’s always had the right attitude inside the dressing room.”

Regarding Inter’s prospects for the 2024-25 Serie A title, Stramaccioni emphasized their stability and continuity: “Inter currently lead due to their solidity and sustained project vision. Unlike Atalanta and Roma, who have changed managers, the other top teams may face initial adaptation challenges despite newfound enthusiasm.”

Taremi has already arrived in Milan and is expected to complete medical examinations before finalizing his contract with Inter. Reflecting on Taremi’s journey at Porto, Stramaccioni noted, “Initially not a starter, Taremi’s impressive performances earned him opportunities under Conceiçao, prompting tactical adjustments to accommodate his strengths.”

Stramaccioni echoed Lautaro Martinez’s sentiment that Taremi would bolster Inter’s offensive capabilities: “Absolutely. Taremi’s proficiency in partnership play, a hallmark of his career, will be crucial given the congested fixture schedule. Inzaghi will have the preseason to integrate him with Thuram and Lautaro, who return later from international duties.”

Describing Taremi’s attributes, Stramaccioni praised his versatility: “An adept goal-scorer, Taremi’s physical presence and aerial prowess make him a potent threat. His arrival, secured on a free transfer by Marotta and Ausilio, represents a significant acquisition for Inter.”

Taremi, with an impressive record at Porto and for the Iranian national team, brings a wealth of experience and goal-scoring ability to Inter’s frontline.
