Fans and former Chelsea captain John Terry criticized the graphic, calling it a “disgrace.” In response, the BBC issued a statement explaining the caption was a light-hearted joke, typical of their Match of the Day analysis graphics, with no offense intended towards Ronaldo.
The statement noted favorable comments about Ronaldo throughout the program, including praise from Jose Fonte, Gary Lineker, and Alan Shearer regarding Ronaldo’s dedication, movement, and courage.
