The debate over Messi and Ronaldo’s status as the greatest of all time (GOAT) has become one of the most contentious in sports. With Ronaldo’s move to Saudi Arabia and Messi’s transfer to Inter Miami in Major League Soccer, their rivalry in elite football appears to be fading. Despite this, Mendes believes Ronaldo joining Inter Miami could provide a fitting conclusion, allowing the two icons to “finish their careers together.”

Speaking to BoyleSports, Mendes expressed, “If Cristiano Ronaldo joined Inter Miami it would be amazing for the fans and incredible for football in America. It would mean that the two best players in the history and future of football, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi would finish their careers together which would be a dream come true. However, I can’t see it happening. It would be very difficult.”

Messi and Ronaldo have dominated the sport in the 21st century, amassing a combined total of 13 Ballon d’Or awards, nine Champions League titles, and an impressive 76 trophies. Their collective goal tally stands at 1732 goals, excluding friendlies.

While the prospect of them finishing their careers side by side seems remote, fans can still cherish the hope of witnessing these legends play together before they retire. Looking ahead, Ronaldo recently experienced defeat against France in the Euro quarter-finals and is unlikely to feature prominently for Portugal in future major tournaments. Meanwhile, Messi aims to secure his fourth title with Argentina, currently competing in the Copa America and set to face Canada in the semi-finals on July 10.
