Pedri has been performing exceptionally well since making his debut in 2020 as a 17-year-old prodigy. Despite his impressive start, he has faced significant challenges with injuries over the past two seasons. He was in excellent form for Luis de la Fuente’s Spain team but has now suffered another injury due to a reckless foul by Germany’s Toni Kroos, who has since apologized to the 21-year-old. This injury has abruptly ended Pedri’s Euro 2024 campaign.
The Barcelona rising star shared an emotional message on Instagram, stating: “I came to Germany for Euro 2024 and I will continue here, until the end. Because the dream, do not doubt it, continues.”
“This week it’s time to encourage and contribute in another way to this great family that is @sefutbol. Their support and that of all of you has been incredible. The hardest moment has passed and the road back is now beginning, to soon be at full strength with Barcelona.”
In response to Kroos’ apology, he added: “Thank you, Toni Kroos for your message. This is football and these things happen. Your career and your record remain forever.”

Pedri’s absence presents a significant challenge for De la Fuente, who now has to devise a strategy without him for Spain’s crucial semi-final match against France on July 10 at the Allianz Arena in Munich. Dani Olmo, who substituted Pedri in the first half, is expected to start against Les Bleus.
Pedri is also set to miss Barcelona’s vital pre-season preparations under new coach Hansi Flick. He is unlikely to return in time for the start of Barcelona’s La Liga campaign on August 18, alongside fellow Spanish midfielder Gavi, who suffered a knee injury with the national team last November.
