Scott Parker has been appointed as the new manager of Burnley. The former England midfielder, 43, previously managed Belgian club Club Brugge, where he was dismissed after a 5-1 defeat to Benfica, resulting in a 7-1 aggregate loss in the Champions League last-16.

Parker’s managerial career includes stints at Fulham, where he achieved Premier League promotion in 2020, and Bournemouth, where he secured automatic promotion in his first season. Despite these successes, he was sacked by Bournemouth after a 9-0 loss to Liverpool early in the 2022/23 season.

Burnley announced Parker’s appointment on Friday night, with Parker expressing excitement about his new role. He emphasized the importance of building a team that fans can be proud of and focusing on success in the upcoming season.

Parker replaces Vincent Kompany, who departed for Bayern Munich after Burnley’s relegation from the Premier League. Parker’s first match in charge will be against Luton, who were also relegated last season, on August 12.
