Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, a Derby County winger and former England Under-16 player, has been arrested following an alleged assault at a nightclub in Magaluf. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, involved a complaint from a woman who claimed she was punched in the face and had her mobile phone stolen by Mendez-Laing.
The 32-year-old footballer appeared in court on Sunday. According to Majorcan newspaper Ultima Hora, Mendez-Laing’s wife was also detained after allegedly pulling the woman’s hair. The couple was located by police using the mobile’s geolocator and released on €300 bail, pending an ongoing investigation. The woman, described as British, reportedly angered the couple by taking photos and videos without their consent. No official comment has been made by the Civil Guard.
Mendez-Laing, who has previously served bans for cocaine use, helped Cardiff City win promotion to the Premier League before joining Derby County in 2022.
