Romania goalkeeper Florin Nita was forced to kick away a pitch invader’s shoe before conceding a goal against Holland in their Euro 2024 match. Donyell Malen scored his second goal in stoppage time, securing a 3-0 victory for the Dutch and their place in the quarter-finals.
The match was briefly disrupted when a fan ran onto the pitch, leaving a pair of shoes in the Romanian penalty area. As Malen advanced towards the goal, Nita kicked one of the shoes away before attempting to save the shot. Despite his efforts, Malen’s low strike found the back of the net. The incident was highlighted by BBC commentator Steve Wilson, who remarked, “Not helped by the trainers of the pitch invader.” During post-match analysis, Gary Lineker commented on Nita’s actions, saying, “I love how the goalkeeper kicks one of the trainers away before he tries to make the save.” Ashley Williams added humorously, “If only he had kicked the ball away that well.”
Cody Gakpo had opened the scoring for Holland in the 20th minute, and Malen’s brace sealed their first Euros quarter-final appearance since 2008. Ronald Koeman’s side will face Austria or Turkey in Berlin on Saturday.
