On Sunday, Barcelona announced that Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo would be returning to their respective parent clubs, Atletico Madrid and Manchester City, along with confirming Marcos Alonso’s departure. However, these statements have since been removed from their official website.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the futures of Cancelo and Felix remain uncertain, with ongoing negotiations. In the 2023/24 season, Cancelo made 42 appearances across all competitions, while Felix played 44 times. New manager Hansi Flick is reportedly keen on re-signing Felix, at the very least.
It is unclear whether Barcelona will pursue permanent deals for Cancelo and Felix or attempt to secure them on loan again. Felix contributed to 16 goals, either by scoring or assisting, while Cancelo had a hand in nine.
Although some clarity is expected soon, Barcelona’s initial announcement of the duo’s exit followed by a reversal indicates significant confusion at Camp Nou. Additionally, the club is reportedly eyeing a surprising move for Hull City star Jaden Philogene.
