Napoli remains optimistic about securing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s contract extension despite reports from multiple sources in Italy claiming the Georgian winger has turned down an initial offer from the club.
Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis and director Giovanni Manna traveled to Düsseldorf on Thursday to meet with Kvaratskhelia and his agent, presenting a substantial contract proposal in an effort to persuade him to stay.
However, both Sky Sport Italia and Il Corriere dello Sport report that Kvaratskhelia and his representatives declined the offer, indicating that negotiations will resume after the European Championship.
According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Napoli proposed a new contract worth €5 million per year, including bonuses, running until 2029. The winger’s salary would rise over the coming seasons, reaching over €7 million in the final years of the deal.
Despite Napoli’s assertion that the meeting with Kvaratskhelia was positive, both Sky and Corriere dello Sport confirm that the atmosphere during Thursday’s discussions was ‘cordial.’
Meanwhile, Kvaratskhelia has not yet committed to staying at the Stadio Maradona. PSG has shown interest in the player, and De Laurentiis recently accused PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi of contacting Kvaratskhelia without Napoli’s authorization. Both De Laurentiis and manager Antonio Conte have emphasized that Kvaratskhelia will not be leaving the club this summer, as he is under contract until June 2027.
