Manchester United have reportedly hired a Swiss lawyer to facilitate the transfer of Jean-Claire Todibo from Nice. UEFA rules currently block the move due to both clubs being owned by INEOS. Despite allowing both clubs to compete in the Europa League, UEFA has strictly prohibited transfers between them.
Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri reports that Sir Jim Ratcliffe, INEOS CEO, has hired a renowned expert in international sports law to appeal before the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Ratcliffe expressed frustration with UEFA’s ruling, stating, “It’s not fair on the player, and I don’t see what that achieves.”
United are determined to sign the 24-year-old center-back. A new center-back is a top priority for Erik ten Hag, with a £35m bid for Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite already rejected. Todibo’s £29.5m fee is significantly lower than Branthwaite’s £70m target price.
Ratcliffe is reportedly considering selling Nice to prioritize Old Trafford. Despite Todibo’s impressive season, he was left out of France’s Euro 2024 squad due to high competition in the position.
