Manchester United is set to join the race to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin, according to reports. New chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe is determined to buy a striker this summer to provide competition for Rasmus Hojlund for the No. 9 shirt.
The club’s first choice appears to be Joshua Zirkzee, with talks already underway for the 23-year-old Dutchman. Reports suggest Man Utd is willing to activate the Bologna star’s £34 million release clause. If a move for Zirkzee does not materialize, Calvert-Lewin is seen as a viable alternative. Everton is looking to sell the 27-year-old to help balance their books. Man Utd is ready to battle Newcastle and AC Milan for his signature, with Newcastle reportedly deterred by Everton’s £40 million valuation.
Calvert-Lewin scored eight goals in 38 games in all competitions last season. Additionally, Man Utd is interested in his teammate Jarrad Branthwaite, having had an initial £35 million bid rejected. The club also had an offer for PSG’s Manuel Ugarte turned down.
