I mean, I feel like I’m always pretty excited after I score, but this is a big moment. It’s a major tournament, so I don’t take this for granted.”
Reflecting on the strong start on home soil, with Panama next on Thursday, Pulisic said, “It’s Copa America. Every team is going to be flying, ready to fight and we don’t expect an easy game at all. So we need to put on an even better performance today if we want to come out with a strong result.”
The USMNT is expecting even more from Pulisic in the future. International teammate and captaincy rival Tyler Adams remarked on Pulisic’s growing potential, saying, “He’s found confidence, which everyone needs at some point. He’s not the finished product yet and continues to grow every day.”
Gregg Berhalter’s team will conclude their group stage at Copa America against Uruguay on July 1, hoping to have secured enough points by then to ensure a spot in the quarter-finals.
