Arne Slot’s amusing response to Liverpool’s early Premier League kickoff with Ipswich

Liverpool's new manager Arne Slot joked about their first Premier League match against Ipswich being scheduled for 12:30pm, a time former boss Jurgen Klopp disliked due to short recovery times after midweek games.

Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp had a strong dislike for one aspect of the Premier League: 12:30pm kickoffs. Ironically, that’s precisely when Liverpool will kick off their first match of the Premier League season. Arne Slot, the new manager of Liverpool, was asked about facing Ipswich at this early hour and responded with humor.

Addressing reporters, Slot remarked, “They’ve told me it’s going to be 12.30… from what I know, Jurgen complained a lot about this so probably they thought, with Jurgen being out let’s put them at 12.30 again!”

This early kickoff time shouldn’t pose a significant issue for Liverpool this time around, as it marks the season’s opening match and won’t follow a midweek fixture, which was Klopp’s main concern with early kickoffs. On multiple occasions, Klopp’s team had to contend with the 12:30pm slot immediately after a midweek European game, leaving them less than 72 hours to recover and prepare for their next match.

Slot, who will lead his squad on a preseason tour of the United States, aims to thoroughly evaluate his team before the new season kicks off.
