Lazio has taken the lead over Juventus in the race to sign Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood. The Serie A club is eager to secure the striker, who was previously charged with attempted rape, assault, and coercive behavior before the charges were dropped.

Lazio’s president, Claudio Lotito, attempted to sign Greenwood on loan last season, but paperwork issues allowed Getafe to acquire him instead. Greenwood thrived in La Liga, scoring ten goals and providing six assists in 36 appearances. Greenwood, 22, remains under contract with Manchester United until 2025, with an option to extend for another year. Despite his £75,000-a-week wage, United has informed his representatives that he is free to leave if a suitable offer is made. The club seeks £40 million but might settle for around £34 million with add-ons.

Juventus has reportedly offered Greenwood a £100,000-a-week three-year contract. New United shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe hinted at a potential return for Greenwood but emphasized the need for careful consideration. He stated, “We have to make decisions based on values and whether he can sincerely play for Manchester United.”
