European football’s governing body, UEFA, is investigating misconduct by a Serbian fan during Monday’s Euro 2024 clash against England. Match observers reported discriminatory chants and inflammatory flags about Kosovo. Despite the incident, security did not arrest or remove the fan, but UEFA is conducting a thorough investigation.

No English players heard the chants, and the FA has not filed a complaint. UEFA spotters, present at every stadium, identify issues even when players are unaware. Serbia fans also allegedly threw objects, contributing to the misconduct.UEFA has charged the Football Association of Serbia (FSS) with multiple offenses such as throwing objects (Art. 16(2)(b) DR) and transmitting a provocative message unfit for a sports event (Art. 16(2)(e) DR). A disciplinary investigation into the alleged discriminatory behavior will be conducted by a UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector.

The UEFA Control, Ethics, and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) will decide in due course. Additionally, there were complaints about long queues and poor stewarding at the Gelsenkirchen stadium. England won the game 1-0, with Jude Bellingham’s early header securing the top spot in Group C for Gareth Southgate’s team.
