Talk about the Egyptian football star potentially moving to the Middle East has been ongoing for some time, with reports suggesting that Al-Ittihad made a significant offer during the summer of 2023. However, no deal materialized then, and Salah still has one year remaining on his contract with Liverpool at Anfield.

At 31 years old, Salah has not signaled any intent to seek a transfer in 2024, with the possibility of becoming a free agent next summer. Liverpool faces crucial decisions as they risk losing a key player without receiving any transfer fee. Jose Enrique believes the prolific forward could head to Saudi Arabia.

The former Liverpool defender shared his perspective with Grosvenor Sport, explaining why such a move could benefit all parties involved: “Mohamed Salah isn’t quite the player he was three years ago. He doesn’t take on defenders as much, though he’s still a phenomenal goal-scoring machine. If I were Liverpool, and the right offer came in – say, over £100 million – I’d seriously consider it. A move to Saudi Arabia could easily fetch that kind of money. I know Liverpool fans might not agree with me – they love Salah and want all their top players to stay – but sometimes, you have to know when to let go. For instance, I’d renew Virgil van Dijk’s contract without hesitation, but with Salah, there’s the Saudi option, and he could become an even bigger star out there than Cristiano Ronaldo. Last year, there were offers from Saudi Arabia for Salah. We all know that when an offer is made, personal terms have likely been agreed upon, so it’s clear he’s is open to the idea of moving on from Liverpool.”

Salah has been with Liverpool since 2017, amassing 211 goals in 349 appearances. He might see an opportunity to secure one more lucrative contract in the Middle East before his market value diminishes. Cristiano Ronaldo’s success at 39 in Saudi Arabia highlights the potential for extending an illustrious career in the region.
