Although Manchester United had been associated with several managerial candidates since the season’s end, the club has decided to stick with Erik ten Hag and is expected to offer him a three-year contract extension. However, ten Hag has reportedly set three significant conditions before he will agree to the deal.

According to The Sun, the first condition is that ten Hag wants no interference in team tactics from technical director Jason Wilcox, who had suggested playing Bruno Fernandes in a false nine role during the FA Cup final against Manchester City.

The second condition relates to the ongoing dispute between Ten Hag and Jadon Sancho. After a public confrontation over Sancho’s training commitment, which led to Sancho calling Ten Hag a liar on social media and being excluded from the squad, ten Hag insists that Sancho must apologize before being reintegrated into the first team.

The third condition is the renewal of first-team coach Benni McCarthy’s contract alongside ten Hag’s own extension.

Ten Hag was close to being dismissed before the surprising victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final. Despite United finishing eighth in the Premier League—a record low for the club—and conceding a record-breaking 58 goals, leading to a negative goal differential for the first time in their history, a surge of support secured his position.

Ten Hag will now focus on pre-season preparations and aims to improve on last season’s disappointing Premier League performance, while also preparing for their Europa League campaign following the FA Cup triumph.
