Former Arsenal defender Zech Medley is set to become a free agent following the dissolution of Belgian club KV Oostende. The 23-year-old joined Oostende in 2021 for £150,000 but faced relegation from the Belgian topflight at the end of the 2022/2023 season.
Now, with Oostende declaring bankruptcy last month, Medley is seeking a new club. Despite Oostende’s financial woes and points deductions, the team avoided relegation from the Belgian second tier. However, the club’s future looks bleak as takeover attempts have failed, leading to an incomplete license application and likely relegation to the second amateur class.
Arsenal, Medley’s former club, reportedly included a sell-on clause and first-option rights in his transfer deal to Oostende. Medley, an Arsenal academy graduate, made 66 appearances for Oostende in three seasons, with a loan spell at Gillingham in 2020. His future now hangs in the balance as he looks for a new club amidst KV Oostende’s collapse.
