According to BettingSites, Nike has suffered a loss of £6.5 million in sales due to fans opting for cheaper counterfeit replicas from illicit websites. One such website alone has reportedly sold an estimated 26,000 fake England shirts.

Criticism has been directed at the kit manufacturer for their high prices, with authentic replica shirts priced at £85 on the Nike website, and the ‘dry-fit’ version even more expensive at £125. Faced with these steep prices, fans have turned to alternative retailers offering counterfeit knockoffs.

Travelling England fans may encounter challenges due to German laws aimed at combating the proliferation of counterfeit goods. The Mirror reports that fines for wearing fake shirts could potentially reach up to £4,000.

As the European Championship approaches, with Germany facing Scotland next Friday, followed by England’s opening match against Serbia on Sunday, 16th June, concerns over counterfeit merchandise and potential legal consequences are heightened.
