Brighton is contemplating appointing St. Pauli boss Fabian Hurzeler, 31, as the youngest permanent manager in Premier League history. Hurzeler led St. Pauli to promotion by winning the Bundesliga 2 last season and has experience coaching Germany’s youth teams. If appointed, he would surpass Attilio Lombardo, who took charge at 32, and Ryan Mason, who held a caretaker role for Tottenham at 28.

Hurzeler is on the final shortlist alongside Malmo manager Henrik Rydstrom to replace Roberto De Zerbi. Although Graham Potter was contacted for a potential return, it seems unlikely. Kieran McKenna was the first choice, but he signed a new deal with Ipswich. Hurzeler joined St. Pauli as an assistant in December 2022 and quickly became head coach, steering the club away from relegation.

Born in Houston, Texas, he has Swiss and German heritage. Concerns exist over whether Hurzeler meets work permit criteria, similar to those for Rydstrom. Brighton midfielder Yasin Ayari praised Rydstrom, indicating potential team support. Brighton is also reviving interest in Leicester midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and exploring a move for Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville.
