Aston Villa is showing strong interest in Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso. The 28-year-old Argentine star, who has one year left on his contract, was used sparingly by Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou this season and is likely to be sold this summer. Villa’s manager Unai Emery is a known admirer of Lo Celso, having previously managed him on loan at Villarreal in 2022 before Emery took the helm at Villa Park.

Lo Celso’s former club, Real Betis, where he initially left to join Spurs for £27 million in 2019, is also keen on reacquiring him. However, financial constraints may hinder Betis from securing the deal. Since signing for Tottenham, Lo Celso has made just 108 appearances in five years, scoring 10 goals and providing eight assists. During the 2023-24 campaign, he made 22 Premier League appearances, only four of which were starts.

Lo Celso spent 18 months on loan at Villarreal from January 2022 to the summer of 2023, making 51 appearances and playing a key role in their run to the Champions League semi-finals. Despite being given another opportunity at Spurs under Postecoglou, the midfielder is understood to be open to leaving, with several clubs interested in his services.
