Southampton have identified Ben Brereton Diaz as a key target following their promotion. The Saints are keen to strengthen their forward line this summer and are considering a move for the Chilean international, who spent the latter half of the season on loan at Sheffield United from Villarreal.
Despite Sheffield United’s last-place finish, Brereton Diaz impressed by scoring six goals in 14 Premier League appearances. His previous successful partnership with Saints striker Adam Armstrong at Blackburn is a significant factor in Southampton’s interest. The club is exploring options for either a permanent transfer or another loan with an option to buy. Additionally, Southampton is eyeing Manchester City academy graduate Liam Delap, who scored eight goals in 32 games for Hull City last season. The Saints have already secured Taylor Harwood-Bellis on a permanent deal and are looking to bring in Flynn Downes.
They have a long-standing interest in Callum O’Hare on a free transfer, though that deal appears unlikely. Adam Lallana is set to return to Southampton after leaving Brighton, and Jack Clarke from Sunderland is also a target. Negotiations are ongoing with Che Adams over a new contract, despite interest from Wolves. Adams is expected to feature for Scotland at Euro 2024.
