Vincent Kompany’s appointment as Bayern Munich’s new manager followed interest from three Premier League clubs, according to his father, Pierre Kompany. Kompany, who led Burnley to the fastest promotion from the Championship but faced relegation in the Premier League, was targeted by Tottenham, Chelsea, and Brighton.
Despite Burnley’s struggles, Bayern admired Kompany’s style of play, leading to his selection. Pierre Kompany revealed, “It was a surprise to the whole world. Well, not for me. Spurs, Chelsea, and Brighton had all shown interest in Vincent.” Tottenham and Chelsea considered Kompany before appointing Ange Postecoglou and Mauricio Pochettino, respectively. Chelsea reportedly revisited Kompany before hiring Enzo Maresca. Brighton eyed Kompany after Roberto De Zerbi’s departure but have not yet appointed a new manager.
Pierre emphasized Bayern’s structured approach and their faith in Kompany’s vision, stating, “At Bayern, they did not focus blindly on that relegation. They know Burnley should have gotten more points.” Bayern also considered other candidates, including Xabi Alonso and Julian Nagelsmann, before choosing Kompany.
