Francesco Acerbi, a seasoned player with Inter Milan, has undergone a surgical procedure at the Humanitas Clinical Institute today, following his recent withdrawal from the Italy national team squad.
The 36-year-old Italian defender made the official decision to step back from Luciano Spalletti’s Azzurri squad in Coverciano last week, citing a frustrating hernia injury that had troubled him towards the end of the season.
Acerbi had been anticipated to participate in the upcoming European Championship, and his absence has left Spalletti with fewer options, compounded by the cruciate ligament injury suffered by Giorgio Scalvini of Atalanta on Sunday.
Regarding Acerbi’s surgery, Inter Milan has confirmed that he underwent a successful operation on his right inguinal wall – the area between the abdomen and the groin – at the Humanitas Clinical Institute in Rozzano today. Following a period of rest, he will commence his rehabilitation in preparation for the 2024-25 season.
With one year remaining on his contract with Inter Milan, the 36-year-old defender is poised to continue contributing to Simone Inzaghi’s squad for the upcoming campaign.
