It’s often said that the most successful coaches owe a good deal to luck, a notion Carlo Ancelotti might dispute. However, fortune seemed to favor him once more as Real Madrid triumphed 2-0 over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final, marking their sixth win in 11 seasons.

Despite being outplayed by a spirited Dortmund team, Ancelotti remained composed on the sidelines at a roaring Wembley Stadium. Dortmund, despite being heavy underdogs, dominated large stretches of the match.

In the first half, Dortmund’s goalkeeper Gregor Kobel didn’t have to make any saves, while Karim Adeyemi missed a clear one-on-one opportunity and Niclas Fuellkrug struck the inside of the post with a shot.

As Fuellkrug missed another chance with a header just after the hour mark, it seemed inevitable that Ancelotti would add a fifth Champions League trophy to his name – two with Milan and now three with Real Madrid.
