The German international faced a challenging start after his move to Arsenal from Chelsea last summer. However, as the season progressed, he gradually found his form, ultimately netting 14 goals and providing seven assists in 51 appearances across all competitions.

Following an impressive debut season under Mikel Arteta, Havertz is now poised to deliver for Germany at the upcoming Euro 2024. Although he doesn’t consider himself a traditional No. 9, he is prepared to be Germany’s target man. Havertz referenced Erling Haaland and Harry Kane as examples to illustrate the evolving role of modern strikers.

In an interview with Welt am Sonntag (via TZ), the 24-year-old stated, “I clearly see myself as a number 9 in the national team – and that’s what I am now at Arsenal. But I don’t mean the classic nine. Where else are they available? Even Erling Haaland or Harry Kane, who you immediately think of, don’t just stand in the box and wait for the finish. The players who are waiting there no longer exist in modern football.”

“I am someone who enjoys letting go and making deep runs. But it is also clear to me that I will be measured by goals.”

The former Bayer Leverkusen star is set to return to action on June 3 as Julian Nagelsmann’s side faces Ukraine in an international friendly.
