Manchester United have reportedly approached former Barcelona boss Xavi about becoming the club’s new manager. According to sensational reports from Spain, the legendary midfielder, 44, was dismissed by Barcelona last week after a turbulent few months. Despite initially planning to leave in January, Xavi stayed until he was axed before the final game of the season, with Hansi Flick announced as his replacement.

Out of work, Xavi has already attracted interest from AC Milan and the South Korean national team. AS reports that Manchester United made an “informal” approach amid uncertainty surrounding Erik ten Hag’s future. However, Xavi prefers to take a year off before considering his next role in 2025.

During his tenure at Barcelona, Xavi won 89 of 142 games, securing the La Liga title and Spanish Super Cup in the 2022/23 campaign and finishing second behind Real Madrid this season. Reflecting on his time, Xavi remarked, “To the new manager, I tell you: ‘You will suffer’. This is a very complicated place to be.” Barcelona expressed gratitude in a statement, wishing Xavi success in his future endeavors. Meanwhile, potential replacements for Ten Hag include Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Tuchel, Roberto De Zerbi, and Gareth Southgate.
